It’s not always easy to find unique worthwhile furniture from IKEA. But here is a list that will make your living room look like a banger if you incorporate it right.
- Sofa
If you know me from IG then you will know that my first sofa ever was the IKEA Söderhamn. I love this sofa and honestly, there are a lot of reasons why you should too. So let me break down for you a few of the top reasons.
- It has removable covers so I never had to worry about having a stain or a spill. Of course, I had to be careful because I had it in white.
- I don’t think you can find a better deal than the Söderhamn in terms of aesthetic, style and price. Its low profile and legs give it very contemporary vibes and honestly, if you wanted something this chic from somewhere else, expect to pay upwards of 1k minimum.
Since I have firsthand experience with this sofa though, I am obliged to share that the sofa is not comfortable. The combination of a deep and low seat makes it uncomfortable especially when watching TV. So if you want to get this sofa, it’s great to know what to expect. If you want to an in depth review of this sofa then check out this blog post.
2. Lamp Tärnaby
There is something nostalgic about this little lamp. It is inspired by traditional kerosene lamps and provides mood lighting which is soft and warm. The visible light bulb emulates a live flame and you can adjust the brightness with the built-in dimmer. As you know I always encourage you to layer lighting in all of your spaces. Ambient lighting, task lighting and accent lighting. This lamp provides is multifunctional either as task lighting when reading, for which you can put the dimmer up or as accent lighting you can lower the dimmer.
3. Basket Flädis
If you can’t see clutter, is it there? Yes, but it won’t stress you out as much. Keeping your things in baskets can help with that while adding style to your living room, too. Not only is it a great way to add texture and warmth to your space it’s also low commitment and cost-effective! I love this basket because you can have 2 looks for the cost of one – have the handles turned up to hide your things, or turn them down to display the contents – you choose. This multifunctional basket is handwoven and adds a natural and genuine expression to any space. You can use it to store anything – from your throws and pillows to use it as a plant pot. What’s not to love?
4. Rug Stockholm
Indeed this rug can come across as bold and daring, but that’s exactly what I love about it. I love this rug because it’s such a great way to add interest and movement to an otherwise boring floor. The black and white offset-stripe pattern is mesmerizing to look at. And I would use it in the living room but if it’s too much for you, you could also use it in the dining room. The flat weave is perfect for dining and living areas. To keep it under reigns you want to stick to more subtle designs for the rest of the room so that the patterns don’t clash but rather are in harmony.
Remember the interior design principle that the correct rug size should at least fit all the front legs of your furniture on top of the rug or all of the furniture should fit on top of the rug, especially in the case of a dining room table.
5. TV console
I love all things Besta. BESTÅ TV units combine contemporary good looks with practical functions. You get lots of storage space and relief from cables that tend to get messy and gather dust. They come with a wide range of colours and finishes so you can sort of get that customized look for less. Another thing I did was to mount it on the wall above the floor. For a small space, this is a great way to use less floor space. We also added an LED strip behind the console which illuminates the space between the console and the floor giving it a very contemporary finish. I love this because it is a simple way to layer lighting.
6. Accent chair Ekenaset
The EKENÄSET armchair adds a stylish retro vibe to the room which is inspired by Scandinavian design. It’s a size fit all because you can Place it in your living room, bedroom or hallway to enjoy comfy seating and a classic look. It also fits other styles like Japandi because of the wooden elements and also midcentury modern because of the peg legs. You can create a great reading nook for yourself by adding a standing lamp next to it, a basket to hold your throws and a side table to place a cup of hot chocolate during those cold winter months.
7. Side table Gladom
End tables and side tables are so much more than a sidekick to your sofa. Second to the coffee table? Hardly. You want to incorporate a side table in your living room because it’ll help keep everything you need for your next movie night or reading marathon close at hand. Light and easy to move around with removable tray top, handy for serving snacks.
8. Mirror Sandtorg
In a large living room, this huge mirror can be placed on the floor anchored and tilted against a wall or if you have a small place SANDTORG mirror can be hung on a wall and you have the choice of either hanging it vertically or horizontally. A large mirror is practical and can make the room feel bigger. The thick black frame gives it a very contemporary look. But mirrors are not only decorative, but they’re functional too. If your living room lacks some natural light, mirrors are a great way to brighten a dark room. To make this feature more prominent, Hang a mirror on a wall adjacent to a window to help reflect its light into the room.
9. Coffee table
Remote controls, magazines, popcorn bowls… your living room table has a lot to take care of. In enters the coffee table. Go sleek and minimal plus ultra-organized with hidden storage under this table. The Stockholm coffee table is a perfect tribute to modern Scandinavian design. This stylish table with an oval tabletop made of walnut veneer has an elegant and warm expression. Keep magazines, books and other small items on the shelf. I also love the subtle textured detail on the bottom plus it acts as a shelf. This oval coffee table should receive all the love because the elongated shape allows for maximum space to position your tea, cake and magazines, while the rounded corners take up minimal room and prevent you from hitting your leg off the corner every single time you get up. They are pretty toddler friendly, too.
10. Arm Chair HOLMSTA / FRÖKNABO
If you have a laid-back style and want to bring some nature into your living room then this chair is your answer. Made of handwoven rattan, bamboo and wood – natural materials this chair will work best in a tropical, bohemian, eclectic or beach-themed house.
