As someone with borderline type-A personality, I find that planning things in advance makes my life easier and decision making faster. I find that on the weeks I don’t do the below steps, I am more stressed and it takes time for me to get going with my daily tasks.
So I started taking time each weekend especially Sunday to reset myself and prepare for the upcoming week.
Let’s get into it:
- Change linens – every Friday I strip the whole house of all linens and throw them into the laundry. Bed sheets, towels, duvets, kitchen towels and cleaning scrubs. If I removing the curtains was easy, I would throw them in too! I love the smell of a freshly washed linen after a long day of work. I make sure to dry everything within the weekend because I hate the thought of having a laundry related to-do in the week. By Sunday I like to have all laundry washed and packed away.
- Doing laundry – I also make sure to do the rest of the laundry on Friday. And as already said, by Sunday everything should be done and packed away in the wardrobe.
- Water plants – As a plant mama of 3, I make sure to water my plants every Friday. When I am feeling generous and kind to myself, I buy a beautiful bouquet of flowers to enjoy during the week. In our bathroom, I have a couple of faux plants which I clean and dust on Friday again to keep them looking as realistic as possible.
- Weekly goal setting – Now this is a central activity I have to do without fail! At the beginning of each Quarter, I set some goals for myself. Then each week I set smaller goals that align with my quartile goals to make sure that I achieve them. For example, if my quarterly financial goal is to save 1,200 euro I breakdown that goal into 120 euro each week. So each week I get to review my progress and if they’re any challenges I try to address them ASAP. I have different goal categories like business, fitness, family, spirituality etc. Before I set the goals of the new week, I review the goals of the previous week and allocate a score to tell me how well I performed.
5. Weekly To- Do List – I then create a master to-do list with all the activities that must be done during the course of the week. Each day I then slowly decide what I want to do and when depending on how I am feeling and how much I have to do at work or so.
6. Block out time in Google Calendar – Next to the tasks I have to do, I block out the time in my google calendar. I have a saying that if it’s not on the calendar then it won’t get done. This really helps me especially when I have an appointment at the doctor, seeing a friend or taking some lessons.
7. Meal planning and grocery list – Because I am taking my health and fitness pretty importantly lately, my nutrition is of essence to me. Each Sunday I think about what meals we are going to have throughout the week. As I list down what we want to eat, I write out the corresponding grocery list. This way, when we go food shopping we don’t leave anything out. And most important I think about my lunch time meal which I meal prep on Sunday or Monday. For example, last week I had friend chicken breast and some grilled vegetables for lunch. I made 10x portions for me and Nigel enough and packaged it individually for Mon-Fri.
