I kid you not, each time I get invited to a dinner or house warming party, I always get slightly anxious. What should we bring along is the question my husband and I always ask each other.
Honestly, we usually settle for a bottle of wine but if it’s the second invite from the same person then a wine bottle won’t really work.
So today I said enough is enough, I’m going to make life easier for myself and others by compiling a list of things I can buy for the host or new home owner.
1.Wine Glass and Coasters
Of course this has to be on the list. It’s a great gift honestly especially if the wine is really good. If you want to go the extra mile then coasters will be really nice. Coasters always come in handy and they will definitely be put to use!
2. A Monogramed Doormat
Talk about function and aesthetics. I think this is such a lovely way to personalize a rather generic gift. It’ll really set it apart and show that you actually thought about the people you’re gifting.
3. Outdoor Game Set
If you’re gifting a family that just bought a house then an outdoor game makes sense right? Some of my suggestions are – giant jenga (def a favorite of many people), ring toss, yardzee or croquet.
4. Gourmet treats
You’ll have to be careful here. It wouldn’t make sense to bring people on a Keto diet a packet of potato crisps, no matter how special they are. So tread carefully here. But bringing some nice tasty gourmet treats is something people would appreciate. But what we usually do is buy a really nice olive oil or balsamic vinegar because usually everyone eats that.

5. A cookbook and favorite kitchen tools
Generally, you can never have enough cookbooks right? And to make it even more special, bring along one or two of your fav kitchen tools. Don’t bring the generic stuff though, the host might already have that and might end up struggling with how to store the new stuff.
6. Return address stamp
When I saw this online, I was like why don’t I have that? Given the amount of times people send packages or letters, a return stamp is really thoughtful and would be a beautiful gift.
7. Gardening set
A garden comes with work to keep it looking good. So a gardening set with the common tools makes sense.
8. Firestarter and a cozy blanket
Again if the host bought a new house with an outdoor area or a fireplace then a fire starter is a good idea as a gift. I used to hate being asked to get the fire going for a braai when I was a child. A cozy blanket to go along makes total sense too.

9. Terrariums
If you want to give a unique plant then why not go with a terrarium? It can be small or large, whatever size you like.
10. A monogramed modern tray
Trays are really great – you can use it as a décor element for styling your coffee table or bookshelf or even keeping things in the kitchen or bathroom. Whatever use the host sees fitting, it will be a useful gift.
11. Fancy handwash
It doesn’t have to be fancy fancy, but the packaging can be cool and fancy to display.
12. Kitchen Tea towels
This is a low cost option which will definitely be put to good use.
13. Room spray
Be careful with this one as fragrances can be a bit tricky. But honestly, who doesn’t love vanilla or lavender flavour?
14. Chai gift set
We all have that one friend who loves teas especially Chai. So why not gift them that when they have you over?
Again, we all have a friend who really cats. Then this shopping bag might be a cool gift to show you appreciate them having you over.
16. Champgne butter
Believe me, this extraordinary butter is the perfect partner to a post-feast sponge, adding a rich, creamy and delicious touch to everything from Lemon Curd Sponge to Sticky Toffee.
